Ayse lives and runs a business in Palmers Green. She has been a hairdresser and has had her own salon since she was 21. She has a daughter Ahsen and two boys Mehmet and Can.
Two years ago she read about the wonderful work that Pro Cancer Research Fund was doing helping those affected by cancer and supporting a very novel line of research at Imperial College. Eyse wanted to raise as much money as possible so she organised her first Ball at The Regency Banqueting Suite in November 2006.
She was delighted and proud to have risen to the challenge and with the support of friends, customers and the business community a total of £27,953.20 was raised.

Ayse stayed in touch with the Palmers Green Support Group and in February 2008 She walked the ‘The Orchid Walk’ an annual sponsored walk where each walker has to raise a minimum of £1200 to take part.

Her 13 year old son Mehmet also caught the bug and decided to do a sponsored swim where he would swim non-stop for 3 hours. He raised a total of £1,500.99.

As a family they became passionate about the work that this charity does, not knowing that they would become one of the families PCRF would support.

Ayse's beautiful 21 year old daughter Ahsen was a second year law student when she was sadly diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma in early 2008.

They felt lost and bereft not knowing who or where to turn to. This is when she contacted PCRF. It is a difficult time for them as a family and it makes all the difference to have someone and somewhere to go to for help, support and advice. Ahsen is continuing with her treatment and doing well but she will continue receiving chemotherapy until October 2008.

As Ayse experiences the cancer journey as a carer for her daughter, she realised that support for those affected by cancer is an absolute necessity and makes a huge difference to their experience. Research is equally important because ultimately it will not only save lives but it will have a huge impact on their quality of life.

Ayse has witnessed the side effects of chemotherapy first hand and believes that it is essential people support research that looks at treatments that does not have such dramatic side effects.

Cancer treatments that respects the quality of life of the patient are urgently needed. Professor Djamgoz and his group whose work is supported by PCRF are developing non-toxic and targeted treatment methods and early accurate diagnostic tools which hopefully will make a dramatic difference to the quality of life of the patient.

Chemotherapy attacks both healthy and cancerous cells and has severe side effects and is considered cyto(cell) toxic (poison). Currently a cancer diagnosis is done in a number of ways, blood tests, x-rays, imaging and biopsies etc. Most of these will tell that there are cancerous cells, and what stage or phase the cancer is. What they will not tell is if that cancer will go on to spread to other parts of the body (metastasise).

It is important to know this right from the beginning, because it may be necessary to use different types of treatment. At the moment every cancer is treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or drugs and some of these may not need such radical treatment.

So please decide to be someone who wants to make a difference and support Ayse's campaign to raise £60,000.

How can you help?

1) Buy tickets or donate money if you cannot attend
2) Be a sponsor
3) Advertise in the programme
4) Donate something for the raffle/auction
5) Buy raffle tickets
6) Bid at the auction

So please take a few minutes to read this and help me raise the money to help others. Your generosity and support is vital.

Classical Music joins the fight against Cancer - 02nd April 2009

http://2009.pcrfhelpinghands.org

PCRF 020 8886 5111

A recital by two outstanding concert pianists in London this Spring is a fundraiser for a ground breaking cancer charity. Music lovers and anyone willing to support an important new initiative in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer are invited to buy tickets or make donations to the charity.

A feast of classical music is promised at this piano recital on April 2 at St. John’s, Smith Square London. All proceeds from this exciting musical event organized by “Helping Hands” will go to the Pro Cancer Research Fund known as PCRF.

The stars of the evening, making their London debut, are two pianists from the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus. Twenty eight years old virtuoso Maka Borchashvili was a child prodigy born in Georgia. By the age of twelve she was giving solo recitals with the Georgian State Symphony Orchestra. Maka won a scholarship to train in Moscow and is an international prize-winner, particularly acclaimed for her interpretations of Chopin.

Sharing the limelight is Fikri Toros, a rising star in the world of concert pianists. Fikri is a company director who only began to play the piano seriously in 1997 when in his thirties. The most recent of his teachers is Maka and he is fast becoming an established solo performer.

Maka’s programme includes Chopin’s Polonaise in A flat major, Impromptu works by Schubert, and Beethoven’s Rondo a Capriccio. Fikri’s performance features Mozart’s Fantasia in C minor and Emotions by Turkish composer Ulvi Cemal Erkin. They will also play works specially written for four hands.
